AMES, Iowa - Senior Brita Benson took top honors in the 50 freestyle (24.92) and 100 butterfly (59.48) as she helped the Gold team top the Cardinal team, 108-90, at the Iowa State women's swimming and diving intrasquad meet on Friday in Beyer Pool.
The Winona, Minn., native also anchored the victorious 200 medley relay (1:51.92). Junior Tami Ritchie and freshman Krista Fehl took first place in the 500 freestyle (5:18.18) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.74), respectively.
The Cardinal team was led by senior Jenny Lindberg who touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (2:00.43) and was the lead-off leg for the first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:42.54).
Fellow Cardinal team member Lauren Breunig chipped in with first-place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:11.91) and the 100 freestyle (54.31).
In diving, senior Gail Olson landed in first place on the 1-meter springboard with a point total of 273.50. Junior Hillary Nichols finished second (250.15) followed by senior Katie Herman (242.65).
On the 3-meter board, Nichols tallied 259.80 points for first place, followed by Herman (230.00) and Olson (211.40).
The Cyclones will travel to Lawrence, Kan., on Oct. 15, for the Big 12 Relays.
