AMES, Iowa - Sophomore Hillary Nichols broke her own school record on the platform for the third time in two seasons with a point total of 373.75, but failed to receive an invitation to the 2004 NCAA Diving Championships. Nichols placed fourth overall, which is the highest-ever finish by any Cyclone diver at the NCAA Zone Championships.
"Hillary's performance today was outstanding," said head diving coach Jeff Warrick. "To reset the school record at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships is very good. I'm very happy with her performance."
Senior Linda Wagner joined Nichols on the three-meter springboard and one-meter springboard competitions. Wagner landed in 10th place on the one-meter board (460.55) and 13th on the three-meter board (413.65).
Nichols finished in 17th place on the one-meter board (418.95) and 16th on the three-meter board (408.25).
"Overall, I thought Linda and Hillary gave it their all," said Warrick. "We had good warm-ups, but things just didn't come out the way we had hoped. I'm really proud of them, though."
The NCAA Zone Championships wrapped up the season for the Cyclone diving team.
