AMES, Iowa - Junior Hillary Nichols finished fourth in the 1-meter diving competition (244.8), while senior Katie Herman finished in fifth place with a score of 243.35 on Friday at the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas. The Cyclones are currently in sixth place after three days of competition with 213 points.
Junior Maggie Peterson took sixth place in the 100 backstroke with a school record-setting time of 55.52. That mark was also a NCAA consideration time. Sophomore Casandra Nelson finished 16th (59.07). In the 400 yard individual medley junior Kim Rogers finished ninth with an NCAA consideration time of 4:22.31 and junior Lydia Smirnoitis placed 15th with a personal-best time of 4:27.57.

In the 100 butterfly, senior Brita Benson took 11th place with a time of 57.12, freshman Emily Welborn placed 19th (58.56) and junior Melisa Fender came in 20th with a time of 58.61.
Sophomore Lauren Breunig finished 11th in the 200 yard freestyle with a season-best time of 1:51.49.
The 100 yard breaststroke event saw freshman Krista Fehl place 14th (1:05.37) and junior Shannon Parker finish 22nd (1:10.91).
The 200 yard freestyle relay team finished fifth with a time of 1:34.50.
Saturday's swimming and diving action will begin with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the event finals starting at 6 p.m. with.
