Cyclones Tie For Fifth at Big 12 Relays

AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State's swimming and diving squad tied for fifth at the Big 12 relays on Friday at the Devaney Center Natatorium in Lincoln, Neb. The Cyclones, who scored 30 points last year at the same meet, notched 41 points to finish in a tie with Nebraska.

The Cyclones, competing against three teams that finished last season in the top-25, took second in both diving events and third in the 300 yard breast relay.

Haley Haynes and Tien Tran teamed up to take second in the unique relay diving competitions. In both the one and three meter events, each diver took three dives and the scores were then combined to come up with the total.

Haynes and Tran scored a 228.70 on the 1-meter board, finishing behind Texas (269.90) and above Kansas (217.40). In the 3-meter, Haynes and Tran again finished second behind the Texas duo, scoring a 245.80.

Teaming up in the 300 yard breast relay and taking third place with a time of 3:21.91 were Krista Fehl, Lindsey Behrens and Marni Benson.

The Cyclones will return to action on Friday, October 20 for a home meet against South Dakota State. The meet will be held in Beyer Hall and is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
