FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A time of 4:03.16 gave Iowa State senior David Rotich one more race of his indoor season. Rotich made the finals of the mile run at the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. He was the 10th qualifier in his field.
"He got in bad position at the start and never really got a chance to get room to run,"said head men's distance coach Corey Ihmels. "He got boxed in toward the back but in the last 400 meters he found some real estate to get going. It was good to get this race out of the way and get qualified today. Now he'll prepare for tomorrow."
It was a different story for Cyclone senior Ada Anderson. Her time of 2:06.49 left her one spot out of qualifying for the finals of the 800-meter run.
"Ada ran a gutsy race," women's head coach Dick Lee said. "She led through the first 650 meters and faltered down the home stretch. She lost her form a little bit and that's all it took to keep her out of finals. She did just what she needed to do in the first four to 600 meters but wasn't able to keep it going. But, she is looking forward to an outstanding outdoor season."
Rotich will run in the finals of the mile run tomorrow at 6:15 p.m. Complete results of today's NCAA action can be found at www.ncaasports.com.
