Pulsawath Leads Cyclones On Day One

Verona, Wis. ? True freshman Pennapa Pulsawath made a splash in her Cyclone debut, shooting a two-round score of 151 to tie for third place after the first day of competition at the Lady Badger Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin Sunday. ISU, looking to improve on last year's finish of ninth place, is tied with Memphis for fifth place as the Cyclones registered a team score of 631. Indiana leads the team race by two strokes over Oklahoma while Kansas State's Michelle Regan leads the quest for medalist honors.

Pulsawath, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, shot a team-best first-round score of 76 and followed it with an improved 75. Senior Christi Athas carded a solid score of 160 to stand tied for 21^st. Athas, the returning leader in stroke average, was tied for 11^th after she scored a 77 in the first round.

Juniors Karly Pinder and Kendra Hanson shot +17 and +18, respectively, at the par-72 University Ridge Golf Course for two-round finals of 161 and 162. Pinder was carrying momentum into her third season, placing third at the Canadian Women's Am this summer and registering her best tournament finish, tied for 16^th at the Big 12 Championships at the end of her sophomore campaign. Hanson, who notched her top tournament finish at last year's Lady Badger Invitational, tied for 11^th, stands in 25^th with five other competitors.

Another junior, Jessica Shin, who became the first ISU women's golfer to finish in the top-10 at the Big 12 Championships last season, rounded out the Cyclone scoring with a two-round total of 164 and is tied for 41^st.

The Cyclones are back in action tomorrow for the final round beginning at 8 a.m.
