CARLSBAD, Calif. – Through two rounds of the NCAA Women's Golf Championship, the Iowa State Cyclones sit in a tie for fourth place with an even score. The Cyclones will look to be in the Top 15 after Sunday's round, guaranteeing the best finish in program history.
On a day where only seven of the 30 competing teams went under par, the Cyclones finished the round at four-over with a 292. No. 17 Iowa State and No. 7 Arkansas are tied for fourth, while No. 1 Stanford (564) and No. 2 USC (567) lead the way. No. 21 Oklahoma State is two strokes behind USC. There is a three-way tie at the top of the individual leaderboard with all players six-under par.
Sophomore Alexandra Vidal led the Cyclones in the second round, as she sits in the Top 25 with a one-under 143 in a tie for 21st place. Vidal had six birdies on the day, as she became the 11th player in school history to have multiple rounds of 71 or lower in NCAA competition.
Senior Pammy Chookaew is tied for 27th, after she shot a 74 in the second round. Chookaew had three birdies on the back nine, as she moved her total to an even 144 for the two rounds.
For the second-straight day, sophomore Isabella Yan shot a one-over 73, as she sits in a tie for 46th with a 146. Yan had two birdies in her first four holes to start the second round. Senior Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn shot a 78, as she dropped to a tie for 64th with a 147 for the two rounds. Chul-Ak-Sorn birdied the sixth hole of the day. Sophomore Nichakorn Pinprayoon cut five strokes off her first-round score, as she moved up 15 spots to a tie for 128th with a 74 in the second round. Pinprayoon birdied two of her first five holes to start the round.
Chul-Ak-Sorn played her 136th round as a Cyclone, moving into a tie for fourth in school history. Along with Chookaew, the pair played their 17th round of NCAA competition, the most in program history.
All 30 teams and the six individual players remain alive going into the third round of stroke play on Sunday. Following Sunday's round, the Top 15 teams and Top 9 individuals not on an advancing team, will advance to the final round of stroke play on Monday. The 72-hole individual National Champion, and the eight teams for match play, will be determined following Monday's completion of stroke play.
