Iowa State Wrestling Photo Albums

On the silver anniversary of its last Midlands Championships team title, the Iowa State wrestling program turned a new page under first-year head coach Cael Sanderson. Travis Paulson claimed his first Midlands title at 165-pounds by defeating Iowa's Mark Perry and the Cyclones tallied 154.5 team points to win its first Midlands team championship since 1981.

Nick Fanthorpe (125), Trent Paulson (157) and Kurt Backes (197) finished runner-up in their respective weight classes and Jake Varner placed third at 184-pounds. Placing fourth for ISU was Nick Gallick at 133-pounds and Mitch Mueller finished sixth at 141-pounds. Cyler Sanderson took seventh-place in the 149-pound bracket. At 174-pounds, David Bertolino closed out the tournament with an eighth-place showing. True freshman Jonathan Reader placed seventh at 165-pound wrestling unattached.

Trent Paulson was awarded the Fastest Pin Award with a first-round fall of MacMurray's Chris Kelly in 33 seconds.

Iowa State finished third at the 2007 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Cyclones defeated Michigan, 25-15, and Hofstra, 24-9, on the first day of action to advance into the semi-finals. ISU was topped by eventual champion Minnesota 24-11, but rallied to hand Oklahoma State a 25-9 loss to place third.
