Getting things going for the Cyclones were freshmen Kalyn Amundsen and Chelsea Tomek in the 1000 free. Amundsen and Tomek placed first and second with respective times of 10:44.53 and 10:54.56. The duo also combined to take the top two spots in the 500 free with Amundsen touching the wall first in a time of 5:15.06. Tomek placed second with a time of 5:19.47.
Also picking up her first career win was freshman Jessie Schweich. The
“In this meet, we moved many of our swimmers around to different events and they did a great job,” said head coach Duane Sorenson. “Kalyn did an outstanding job in both her races and Jessie won the 100 breast in what was a really solid race for her.”
For the Cyclone divers, junior Kali Fryklund earned her first victory of the year as she won the 1-meter event with a 230.48. She also picked up a second-place finish in the 3-meter event with a 220.58.
“Kali had a great performance today with some dives that she had been struggling with lately,” said diving coach Jeff Warrick. “She has been doing a great job in practice and her persistence has really paid off.”
Alongside Fryklund, teammate Tien Tran picked up the win in the 3-meter event with a score of 248.18 and was just behind Fryklund in the 1-meter event as she placed second with a 225.98.
