Cyclones Finish Third at Husker Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb.- The final day of the Husker Invitational concluded with the Cyclones taking third place, scoring 1,013 total team points. The Cyclones had a very strong showing from sophomores Frances Calzada and Tien Tran. Calzada took first place in the 100 yard freestyle with a career best time of 52.14. Tran captured the win in platform diving with an overall score of 236.75.

“Frances had a tremendous start, a great first flip and earned herself first place and a career best,” said head coach Duane Sorenson. “We just kept competing and racing, that's all we could do.”

Continuing the streak was freshman Amy Bauer who took second place in the B heat of the women's 200-yard backstroke. In the A heat of the 200 back, junior Lindsay Wegner and freshmen Jenny Vondenkamp took third and fourth place, respectively.

Senior Lindsay Wiesner managed to grab first place in the B heat of the 200-yard butterfly.

Junior Marni Benson finished the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:24.96 and was immediately followed by freshmen Jeli Nixt in 2:25.18.

Iowa State will be back in the pool competing on December 1 in Cedar Falls against Northern Iowa.
