Iowa State senior volleyball player Erin Boeve will be writing a weekly blog this season to give Cyclone fans an insiders look at the happenings of the program, which last year advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. Boeve, a middle blocker from Steen, Minn., became the first Cyclone to earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors a year ago. She also was the first ISU volleyballer to be named first-team All-Big 12 and the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. A preseason All-Big 12 selection this year, Boeve is the school's record holder for career block assists and owns the top-two single seasons in school history as well.

Wow! What a busy, but exciting week, it has been for the Cyclone volleyball team! It was a week of traveling as we were away both matches on Wednesday and Saturday against Missouri and Kansas.
After a day of practice on Monday, we were back to the Ames airport on Tuesday to fly to Columbia, Mo. We left at 4 p.m. and arrived in Columbia about 40 minutes later. It was a great time to get a quick nap in! Once we got there we went straight to the gym and practiced for our match the next day. Once practice was complete we went and ate, then it was off to the hotel for the night.
On Wednesday, we went through the normal game day routine including breakfast, film, practice, and a pre-game meal. The match started at 6:30 p.m. against the Tigers. Each game was very close, but we were only able to take one game off of them. We were very evenly matched teams, but we weren't able to get our offense going like we wanted, making it hard to win. This loss put us at a tie for fifth in the Big 12 Conference.
We had one day of practice in Ames on Thursday before we were on the road again to Kansas on Friday. This time we had to take a bus, so we left at 12:30 p.m. We again went right to practice as soon as we got to Lawrence. We grabbed a quick bite to eat after practice then watched some film before we went to bed. We needed a good night's sleep as the time of the match was moved to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
We made this early morning match against the Kansas Jayhawks very interesting. We came out a little slow in the first game, in which we ended up losing 20-30. This was not a good way to start out the day. In the second game, we were able to pull things together and win 30-24. After the break, the Jayhawks took another game from us winning 30-26. The fourth game was the most interesting of all of them. We were down 11-3 in the fourth game, but fortunately we pulled off the win 30-26. That was our greatest comeback the season! Now it was on to game five, it was very close the whole way. Both teams fought very hard, but we came out with the win with a score of 17-15. With this win we will now be considered for the NCAA tournament!!
These two matches were our final regular season road trips for the season. But don't worry, if you still want to see us play you have two chances left right here in Ames! We play in Hilton on Wednesday against No. 3 Texas at 6:30 p.m. Then on Saturday we will celebrate senior night while playing Oklahoma at 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!
Go State!
