Pulsawath Leads ISU on Day Two

SAN JUAN, P.R. ? The Iowa State women's golf team concluded second-round play at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Saturday morning. ISU was led by Pennapa Pulsawath's score of 77 but fired a team total 313 and slipped to 12th place, one stroke behind Indiana. Sixth-ranked Auburn overtook TCU for the team lead with a low round of 284 and leads ninth-ranked Oklahoma State by five strokes heading into the final day. OSU's Pernilla Lindberg and Auburn's Mariana Macias are tied for the individual lead, with both players sitting at 4-under par.
Pulsawath also had ISU's lowest score after the first round, positioning herself in a tie for 26th with a 75. The Bangkok, Thailand, native carded second-round score of 77 and is now tied for 35th with four others.
Senior Christi Athas completed her 101st career round, edging closer to Laura Wells who played 103 rounds. Athas is in sole possession of ninth-place on the all-time career rounds played list after passing Cathy Ennis in Friday's first-round action. The Eldora, Iowa, native, bettered her first-day score by one stroke, shooting a 78, and is locked with Wisconsin's Jeana Dahl for 54th place.
Karly Pinder shot a 79 to give her a two-day total of 156 and is tied for Big 12 counterpart Megan Goodwin of Oklahoma for 51st. Pinder's first-round score of 75 had her tied for 45th.
Jessica Shin showed improvement by one stroke over her first round play, recording a 79 and moving up to 58th place. Kendra Hanson struggled in second-round action, posting an 88, one day after scoring a 76, her second-best score during her junior season.
The third and final round begins 7 a.m. Sunday. Iowa State will compete at the three-day A&M “Mo” Morial March 9-11.
