CARMEL, Ind. - The Iowa State women's golf team improved its first-round score by seven strokes during Tuesday's final round of competition at the Indiana Invitational. The Cyclones fired a 311 to move up in the standings to 12th out of 17 teams. Michigan overcame an 11-stroke deficit to rival Michigan State and took home the team title by three strokes, scoring a two-round total of 603. Illinois' Seul Ki Park equaled her first round score of 72 to finish even in the tournament and capture medalist honors.
Karly Pinder wrapped up her fourth top-10 performance of the season by placing in a tie for sixth. The junior bettered her first-round score of 76 by strokes and finished at a 2-over par 150 in the tournament. She recorded four birdies as she finished the front nine holes at 1-under par. The Exeter, Ontario, native was in a tie for 13th at the end of Monday's round.
Senior Christi Athas improved her first-round total, shooting a 76 in the final round to finish tied for 34th. Her finish is the best this spring, previously finishing tied for 48th at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Eldora native as tied for 46th at the end of the first round.
Jessica Shin dropped two shots from her first-round score and finished tied for 57th. Shin recorded a two-round total of 160 and finished 7-over par after registering back-to-back birdies to open the final round.
It was an uncharacteristic event for freshman Pennapa Pulsawath as she fired two rounds in the 80s, her first ones this spring. Pulsawath ended Tuesday with an 82 to place tied for 70th.
Like Shin, Kendra Hanson made proper adjustments to cut two strokes from Monday's round to score an 83 in her final attempt. Hanson finished with a two-day score of 168 and finished tied for 83rd.
Postseason play is next on the schedule for the Cyclones as they compete at the Big 12 Championship scheduled April 16-18 at the Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas. Hosted by Baylor, the championship format consists of a total of 54 holes with the entire course being played each of the three days.
