CARMEL, Ind. ? The Iowa State women's golf team completed one round of action in the Indiana Invitational Monday at the Crooked Stick Golf Club. The Cyclones fired a round of 318 to sit in a tie with Iowa for 13th in the 17-team field. 23rd-ranked Michigan State was the only team to register a total under 300 and has an early five-stroke lead over Illinois. Illinois' Seul Ki Park shot an even 72 to give herself a two-shot edge over six others for individual honors.
Junior Karly Pinder continued her strong spring surge, shooting a 4-over par 76 to claim a tie for 13th. Pinder's game was modeled with consistency, recording 12 pars on the day with a birdie. She did not shoot a double bogey. The Exeter, Ontario, native finished her day with five consecutive pars on the front nine. Pinder is coming off her third top-10 performance of the year, finishing 10th at the Mountainview Invitational.
Senior Christi Athas carded ISU's second-best total on the day with an 8-over par 80. Athas finished even on the back nine along with two birdies. She is in a tie for 46th along with a host of others.
Pennapa Pulsawath and Jessica Shin each shot a first-round score of 81 to tie for 54th. Kendra Hanson is sitting in 80th after a round of 85.
The final round will be completed tomorrow morning with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
