HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- Senior Karly Pinder tied a school record with a 69 in the final round, helping the Iowa State women's golf team to a third-place finish at the 18-team Ron Moore Intercollegiate Tuesday.
ISU carded a final round 291 to tie the team 18-hole school record, as the Cyclones shot a three-day 897 total, 11 strokes shy of first-place Denver at 886. Baylor was second at 895, just two strokes ahead of ISU. The Cyclones defeated conference rivals, Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Colorado and Texas Tech in the tournament.
Pinder, a native of Exeter, Ontario, tied for fifth with a 220 total (74-77-69) to pace the Cyclones. She is one of five Cyclones in school history to card a 69 (Christi Athas, Lisa Meshke, Noel Jacobusee and Laura Wells).
True Freshman Laurence Herman finished the tournament in a tie for 11th after posting a 54-hole score of 222 (75-72-75). Sophomore Pennapa Pulsawath fired a a career-low 70 during the second round and finished the tournament one stroke back of Herman (223, 78-70-75) in a tie for 14th place. Senior Kendra Hanson came back strong in her third round and shot an even-par 72 to finish the tournament in 47th place.
ISU has gotten off to solid fall campaign so far, recording two top-three finishes in their first two tournaments.
The Cyclones will get a month off before they travel to Kiawah, S.C. to play in the Kiawah Island Invitational on October 29-30.
