WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- The Iowa State women's golf team completed two rounds of action on Saturday in the Purdue Lady Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. After 36 holes the Cyclones sit in sixth place in the 14-team field. Iowa State was paced by sophomore Rachel Reed and freshman Kristin Paulson, as each carded a two-round total of 152.
On a brisk Saturday Iowa State's four-player lineup carded a team total of 617 at the Birck Boilermaker Complex. Among all individuals Paulson shot the fourth-best round of the day with a one-over 73 in the second round of 18 holes. Host Purdue leads all 14 teams with a commanding nine-stroke lead over Notre Dame; while Michigan State, Indiana, and rival Iowa round out the top five. The Boilermakers currently hold three of the top four individual places after day one.
Junior Pennapa Pulsawath had a strong showing for the Cyclones, carding two 78s with a total of 156, and currently sits in a tie for 32nd place. Sophomore Victoria Stefansen is only one shot behind Pulsawath with a 157, and is in a tie for 35th place. The Denmark native is coming off her best performance from two weeks ago, as she was able to take home her first top-10 finish receiving eighth place at the Windy City Classic in Skokie, Ill. Laurence Herman is playing as an individual, and finishes her day with a 163. Paulson and Reed head into the final round on Sunday seeking a top-10 finish, as both are in a tie for 12th place.
Purdue's Junthima Gulyanamitta is the only individual shooting under par, as she leads the field with a two-round card of 143. Tomorrow's final round at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex will get underway with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. You can follow the live action online at golfstat.com.
