Men in 14th in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. ? Freshman Nate McCoy led Iowa State on day one of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. McCoy continued his strong debut campaign for the Cyclones, carding rounds of 73 and 74. The West Des Moines, Iowa native, eagled the par-5, 507-yard No. 4 during the first round on his way to a 145 total. McCoy is currently in a tie for 22nd after the first day of competition.

ISU faired better in its second go-round, totaling a 295, five strokes better than its first round of 300. Iowa State ended the day in 14th place but only three strokes shy from cracking the top-10.

Freshman Thomas Lathrop turned in one of his best performances of the season for Iowa State, combining for a 148 (75-73) through 36 holes. Nathan Leary rebounded from a tough 11-over-par first round by shaving off seven strokes for a second round score of 75. Ben Herrera (149) and Ross Menke (156) also competed for the Cyclones.

Denver is in sole possession of first place (577) while Idaho's Jarred Bossio and Colorado's Pat Grady share first as individuals.
