AUSTIN, Texas- Victoria Stefansen tied for first place as the Iowa State women's golf team closed out its second day of competition with a sixth-place finish at the Challenge at Wolfdancer in Austin, Texas. Competing in her second season as a Cyclone, the sophomore from Roervig, Denmark finished the third round Monday afternoon with an even-par 72, tying Texas Tech's Megan Dowdy with a 221.
As a team the Cyclones carded a final three-round total of 934 (316-315-303). 30th ranked Colorado won the team event with a final score of 928 over 54 holes. The Buffaloes held on to defeat Texas Tech and host Texas State by one stroke, while College of Charleston and Idaho rounded out the top five. Second and third round play resumed this morning, as yesterday's second round was cut short by rain.
Pennapa Pulsawath earned her highest placing of the fall season, finishing in 10th with a 229. The junior from Bangkok, Thailand carded an 81 and 76 in her final two rounds to finish only three strokes out of the top five. Stefansen became the first Cyclone women's golfer to medal since Kendra Hanson won at the Lady Badger Invite on Sep. 10, 2007. This event marks the highest placing for Stefansen, and ties her career-low for 18 holes (72) and 54 holes (221).
The tournament concludes the fall season for the Cyclones. Iowa State will open its spring season on February 8, 2009 in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
