AMES, Iowa- The Big 12 announced the 2008 academic all-Big 12 swimming and diving team on Tuesday with eight members of the Iowa State swimming and diving team earning the distinction.
The Cyclones had six student-athletes named to the academic all-Big 12 first team for their efforts in the classroom. The first-team student-athletes include junior Marni Benson, sophomore Tien Tran, junior Kali Fryklund, junior Maddie Crawford, senior Lindsay Wiesner and sophomore Lindsey Behrens.
Second-Team members are junior Lindsay Wegner and senior Emily Welborn.
To be eligible for the academic all-Big 12 first team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 GPA cumulative or for the past two semesters. Qualifications for second team honors include a 3.0 GPA either cumulative or for the past two semesters. A student-athlete must also compete in 60 percent of the team's contests to be eligible for either first- or second-team academic all-Big 12 honors. Freshman and transfer students, however, are not eligible to receive the award in their first year of academics at an institution.
