Record Falls On Day Two of Big 12 Meet

AUSTIN, Texas- The Iowa State swimming and diving team sits alone in fifth place at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Texas. The Cyclones moved out of a tie with Nebraska after the first day and hold a seven-point edge on the Huskers heading into the third day of competition.
The Cyclones had a recording-setting day in Austin, setting new personal bests and breaking into the school's record books.
The 400 medley relay captured third place in a new school record of 3:43.83. The team was made up of juniors Lindsay Wegner and Marni Benson and sophomores Abby Glaser and Lindsey Behrens.
“The 400 medley was very exciting, we swam well and set a new school record,” said Iowa State swimming and diving head coach Duane Sorenson.
Wegner led off the record setting relay and in the process set a record of her own. Her 100 backstroke time of 56.45 was a new personal best and the third-fastest time in Cyclone history.
Glaser also had an exceptional night individually, swimming to a seventh-place finish in the 50 freestyle (23.34). Her time is a new personal best and also ranks as the second fastest time in school history.
“Abby went out and competed and swam an excellent race,” said Sorenson.
Action will resume Friday morning with prelims of the 200 free relay beginning at 10 a.m.
