AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's tennis team played hard, but fell, 5-2, to the 52nd-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers Saturday at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
Senior Caitlin Loprinzi put forth another hard-fought performance, coming back to win her match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 vs. Minnesota's Elena Kazakova. Loprinzi lost the first set of the match, but came back to win straight sets for the second night in a row. She defeated Western Illinois' Kate Kennedy, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 on Friday.
"Caitlin really fought hard again today and had a repeat performance," said head coach Michele Conlon. "Minnesota played an outstanding first set. To Caitlin's credit she really stuck with it and never gave up."

In No. 3 doubles, Kara Hickey and Liza Wischer came out of the gate winning the first two games of the match, but Minnesota was able to fight back and eventually come away with the win, 8-6.
Freshman Reka Kelemen was also successful in her singles match, netting the win, 6-2, 6-1, over the Golden Gopher's Alex Seaton.
Karonis fought back from a 4-1 deficit to Minnesota's Alessandra Ferrazi to force a tiebreaker in the second set of the No. 1 singles match. Ferrazi won the tiebreaker, winning the match 6-2, 7-6 (5).
Iowa State has two weeks off before its next match. The Cyclones will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
