AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State track and field squad kicked off their outdoor season with six top ten finishes Friday at day one of the Missouri Relays in Columbia, Mo.
Lashawn Wright captured fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.63 while teammate Derron Montgomery placed fifth in the same event with a time of 21.69. In the field, senior Stefan Tauber took third in the javelin throw with a mark of 56.02 meters and Zac Brouillette was sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.15 meters.
“We haven't had the opportunity to throw outdoors so coming out and competing was very important,” said assistant coach Blake Boldon.
Other top finishers at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium include Paige Ties who ran to third in the 5,000-meter run with a mark of 17:32.21 and Clayton Carper who clocked 14:52.87 for eighth place in the 5,000-meter run.
“The conditions were rough, the weather was cold and all the kids came and competed very well,” said Boldon. “It is a sign of good things to come.”
The meet will resume tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. beginning with the girl's discus competition.
