AMES, Iowa- One week after the 99th-Drake Relays, Iowa State continues its outdoor season heading to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Arkansas Twilight meet on Friday. Field events begin at 11 a.m. while the running events begin at 7 p.m at the John McDonnell Field at the University of Arkansas.
With three meets left before NCAA regional competition, Jenna Caffrey, Hillary Bor and Tiffanie Synacek look to regionally qualify in their respective events. Last week at Drake, Caffrey came within one one-hundredth of a second of regionally qualifying in the 100-meter hurdles, after running 13.93. Bor finished third in the 1,500-meter run last week with a time of 3:52.29, five seconds off the regional qualifying standard. Synacek jumped 5-7 in windy conditions at Drake, falling short of the 5-08 3/4 regional-qualifying height.
ISU is also bringing a host of athletes who are already regionally qualified. Luke Pinkelman will compete in the shot put where looks to continue his strong rookie campaign. The freshman owns three victories in the event this outdoor season, including at the L.A. Twilight Open where he tossed a 58-03.00 bomb.
James Galvan will also be running this weekend in the 800-meter run, an event he regionally qualified on April 12 with a time of 1:50.36. Galvan sprinted strong legs in the 4x800-meter and distance medley relays at Drake, where his split significantly improved the squads' finishes.
Other athletes making the trip include Daniel Fadgen, Jared Lewis, Lashawn Wright and Erin Penticoff. The distance runners will take the weekend off to rest after several solid performances at the Drake Relays.
