AMES, Iowa- 17 Iowa State track and field athletes were named to the Big 12's Academic All-Big 12 team, the Big 12 announced on Tuesday. Eight men and seven women earned first-team honors, while Amy Waggoner and Lillian Sawhill received second-team honors. Dawn Caffrey was highlighted for having a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.
To qualify for first-team academic all-Big 12, student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and must have participated in 60 percent of the team's competitions. Second-teamers must have a 3.0 grade point average and participate in 60 percent of the team's meets.
Iowa State competes in the 2008 Big 12 Outdoor Championships this weekend starting on Friday in Boulder, Colo.
