Hampton, Brouillette Victorious in the Weight Throw

AMES, Iowa ? The women's weight throw was won on the opening night of the ISU Open by Iowa State newcomer Laishema Hampton. Hampton took first with an impressive toss of 56-3. Hampton was followed by teammate Amy Waggoner, who threw the weight 55-4? for second place.
“The women's (throwing) team could do better,” said throwing coach John Dagata. “But Laishema really stepped up on that last throw and we're (as a coaching staff) really trying to cultivate that environment where anybody can make it happen.”
Junior Cyclone Zac Brouillette was the ISU Open's men's weight throw champion with a throw of 65-4 1/4.
The Cyclones will be back in action Saturday at 9:50 a.m., beginning with the 3,000-meter run. The Open is scheduled to conclude at 7:50 p.m.
