IRVING, Texas- For the second voting period in a row the Iowa State swimming and diving team saw one of its own earn an award from the Big 12 coaches. This time it was senior swimmer Nan Liu, who won Big 12 Swimmer of the Week the conference announced Wednesday.
This is the first time in since the inception of the Big 12 that an Iowa State women's swimmer picked up an award. This is the second award for the team on the season as diver Tien Tran won diver of the week for the last voting period.
In ISU's last two meets, Liu has collected four victories in each. Last Friday against Iowa, Liu led off for the winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay teams. She also picked up wins in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Her 100 backstroke time of 54.21 was an NCAA ?B' qualifying time.
The Dalian, China native has had a huge season, collecting 21 event wins and breaking the school record in the 100 butterfly back in November. Liu has collected NCAA ?B' cuts in the 100 fly, 100 back, 200 back and as a member of the 200 medley relay team this season.
Texas freshman Maren Taylor earned diver of the week honors.
