“She nailed her last dive of her senior year and probably the last dive of her life,” said diving coach Jeff Warrick. “I thought she dove well today and had a really good weekend. It is a nice way to end her career.”
Tran was seventh after the preliminary round, posting 40 point plus dives on her first three dives. Tran propelled herself past Kansas' Erin Mertz in the final round with a 58.50 score on a back 2 ? somersault tuck.
“It was a great dive for her,” said Warrick. “She nailed it, it was one of her best ones. That was a great job, she was just a little bit off. She can do better than that and she gave a solid performance and had that desire today.”
Today's performance gives Tran a quality performance to build off of for next season.
“Nobody loves to lose. We came here to try and qualify for the NCAA Championships and we did not do that,” said Warrick. “Hopefully that gives her some motivation for next year to continue to work hard and to come in each day and get after it. We are in a tough zone with a lot of good divers and it is going to take a lot of work.”
