AMES, Iowa- Iowa State senior diver Tien Tran represented Iowa State University this week at the 2009 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference in Orlando, Florida.
The NCAA invited 700 student-athletes to the convention. Throughout the three days, the group heard a presentation from the U.S. Army about energy management and attention control, while National City Bank gave a presentation about financial responsibility.
Student-athletes then broke up into smaller groups and discussed topics ranging from diversity, student-athlete well-being, substance abuse, personal branding and sportsmanship.
Tran, who was selected to be a team captain for the 2009-2010 campaign, was pleased with how the conference went and how it will help her and the team.
“The knowledge I gained over the four days of training will be applicable not only to athletics and the Iowa State swimming and diving team, but to life beyond college,” said Tran. “We learned from both our leaders and each other, and I can honestly say I walked away with a better understanding of how to effectively lead my team in a positive direction.”
