ATHENS, Ga.- The Iowa State divers wrapped up competition Tuesday at the Georgia Diving Invitational. Tien Tran led the Cyclone contingent in platform diving with a seventh-place finish. Tran posted a season-high score of 225.75.
“I thought Tien competed well,” diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “We are going to keep building off of what she is doing now, her goal is to make it to the national championships and she is going to have to step it up. She is just a little off here or there and it adds up through five dives.”
Sophomore Sarah Nelson led the rest of the Cyclones in the event, finishing 16th (178.25).
Warrick saw many benefits for the team's season during the three-day event.
“The size of the meet with 45 female divers in the competition was big,” Warrick said. “Seeing divers from the ACC and SEC allows them to put our conference championships into perspective and this will benefit them later on. Though we didn't dive as well as I would have liked, we definitely learned a lot this week that will help us out later in the season.”
The Iowa State swimmers and divers will be back in action again on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 12 p.m. when they host Missouri at Beyer Pool.
