STILLWATER, Okla.—The Iowa State soccer team dropped its second consecutive match by one goal with a 1-0 loss at No. 8 Oklahoma State Sunday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex in Big 12 Conference action.
Oklahoma State's (11-1-1/3-0 Big 12) Krista Lopez provided the match's lone tally with a goal at the 13:54 mark. Lopez's goal was her 11th of the season and was assisted by Colleen Doughtery.
“Oklahoma State put us under a lot of pressure in the first half, and we played well defensively,” Iowa State head coach Wendy Dillinger said. “We played a much better second half and created some great scoring chances. Emily Hejlik had a real good scoring chance and forced their goalkeeper to make a good save.”
Statistically the match was fairly balanced. The Cowgirls held a 13-10 shots advantage and had six shots on goal to Iowa State's (6-5-2/1-2 Big 12) three. Oklahoma State also had a 4-3 corner-kick edge.
“We showed we can compete with anybody in the conference,” Dillinger said. “We are encouraged with the effort and competiveness we have right now. I am really encouraged by how we competed at a top-10 team today.”
Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Jobe played the full 90 minutes and registered five saves for the Cyclones. Jobe's season record dropped to 5-5-1.
“We spent a lot of time with our defense yesterday going over the mistakes we made that allowed four goals against Oklahoma Friday night,” Dillinger said. “We corrected those mistakes today and our defense executed like we wanted to.”
Jordan Bishop, Emily Hejlik and Jennifer Dominguez led the Cyclones with two shots apiece. Both of Hejlik's shots were on goal, which was a team high.
The Cyclones stay on the road for their next match when they travel to Nebraska Friday for a 4 p.m. match.
