INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Iowa State's Lisa Koll has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting a collegiate record in the women's 10,000 meters March 26 at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
The 2010 NCAA indoor 5,000-meter champion, Koll dominated the women's 10,000-meter run, crossing the line in a collegiate record and world-leading 31:18.07. It is the sixth-fastest time ever by an American. Her nearest competitor, runner-up Krisztina Papp, was almost 30 seconds back at 31:46.47. The previous record of 31:25.45 was set by nine-time NCAA champion Sally Kipyego in 2008.
Now in its ninth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
