AMES, Iowa - Several Iowa State wrestlers will be competing at the FILA Juniors and University World Team Trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo, May 28-29. Some of the top collegiate talent in the nation will be vying for a chance to compete at the FILA Junior World Championship in Budapest, Hungary July 20-25. The ninth World University Wrestling Championship will be held in Torino, Italy Oct. 24-30.
Participating in the 74 kg (163 pounds) weight class at the FILA Juniors will be Iowa State's Chris Spangler. Spangler was a two-time runner-up at the FILA Junior Nationals.
Competing in the 74 kg class at the University World Team Trials will be Cyclone Nate Carr, Jr. who is coming off of an eighth-place finish at University Nationals.
Wrestling at the University World Team Trials at 120 kg (264.5 pounds) will be former NCAA heavyweight champion David Zabriskie. The three-time ISU All-American recently earned an eighth-place finish at the U.S. Open.
Two-time All-American Jon Reader is also competing at the University-level event. The Davison, Mich. native was a silver medalist at the 2009 Pan-American Games and a fourth-place finisher at the 2009 World Team Trials.
