Shoeless Bor Headed to NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – The second day of competition at the NCAA West Regional Championship is complete, and Iowa State's two-time All-American steeplechaser Hillary Bor produced as expected. It wasn't easy without a shoe.
Bor finished runner-up in the third and final heat of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:48.72) Friday, automatically qualifying him for the national semifinal at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 9-12. Bor came into the race with the fastest time in the nation, and finished fifth overall.
"Hillary lost his shoe with about two laps to go and had to negotiate two barriers and two waterjumps to finish," Iowa State head coach Corey Ihmels said. "He ran a good, smart race as I thought he would."
Iowa State senior Jenna Caffrey qualified for the national quarterfinal in the women's 100-meter hurdles, after finishing 22nd overall (13.64) in the first round. Caffrey will compete Saturday at 7:20 p.m. (CST).
ISU senior Lashawn Wright qualified for the national quarterfinals in the women's 200-meter dash after finishing 19th overall (23.87) in the first round. Wright will compete Saturday at 7:50 p.m. (CST).
Competition will resume Saturday at noon (CST). Iowa State junior Britta Christofferson will compete in the women's hammer throw qualifying round at 3 p.m., while the men's 4x100-meter relay ream compete in the quarterfinal at 6 p.m. (CST). Results will be posted at cyclones.com.
