AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State track and field teams will be hosting the Iowa State Open, the first meet of 2011, Friday and Saturday at Lied Recreation Center. Events begin on Friday at 3 p.m. with the women's weight throw and the non-seeded women's 5,000-meter run. Events resume Saturday at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put and the non-seeded women's 3,000-meter run.
The meet will be an opportunity for Iowa State's track team to restart the indoor track season which culminates with the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship, Feb. 25-26 in Lincoln, Neb. This weekend's meet is the first of four track meets that Iowa State will host in the Lied Recreation Center. These include the Bill Bergan Invitational (Jan. 27-29), the Iowa State Classic (Feb. 10-12) and the NCAA Qualifier (March 5).
The Iowa State Open will have over 1,500 athletes competing from schools across the Midwest, including: Missouri-Kansas City, NIACC, Iowa Central CC, Minnesota State-Mankato, Buena Vista, Creighton, Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, St. Cloud State, Langston, and Kansas Wesleyan.
Results will be posted on cyclones.com at the conclusion of the meet.
