AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State swimming and diving team will honor 11 seniors this Saturday while hosting Big 12 opponent University of Nebraska. Fans are encouraged to arrive by 12:45 p.m. for the ceremony with the meet to follow beginning at 1 p.m. in Beyer Pool.
After falling to No. 25 Missouri this past weekend, the Cyclones are preparing to face another conference rival.
“We want the women to stand up and race against the Huskers and compete with all they have,” Iowa State head coach
Duane Sorenson said. “They know Nebraska will be excited and ready to race at a high level.”
Despite a tough loss, many career best times were achieved against Missouri, including
Megan Thompson and
Alex Gustafson, both in the 1000 freestyle. Thompson touched the wall first at 10.34.76 and Gustafson came in fourth with a time of 10.51.13
Nebraska will bring many tough races for the Cyclones this weekend, after falling to Kansas its last time out. Sophomore Ariel Weech finished first in the 50 free, with a time of 24.05. The Cornhuskers' 400 free relay also placed first with a time of 3.29.15.
“Nebraska is always a close meet," Sorenson said. "The last two times the meets have been here the meets have been decided by tenths of seconds.”
The Iowa State diving team put up strong competition against Missouri, with multiple career best dives and top five dives for the team.
Sarah Nelson finished with 272.70 points on the 1-meter, and Jessica Nicholson who finished with 272.93 in the 3-meter.

Jeff Warrick said. "Hopefully we will see personal bests for others who haven't reached their best yet.”
The Cornhuskers will prove to be great competition with divers dominating the 1-meter as well as 3-meter against Kansas, taking first through third place in both events. Freshman Payton Michaud will be a strong threat for Nebraska, winning both 1-meter and 3-meter.
“It's always a dog fight, they bring their best game, and we will too,” said Warrick. “It will be a battle.”
The Cyclones have an all-time record of 6-30 against Nebraska and are preparing to swim their best against the Cornhuskers before Nebraska leaves the Big 12 Conference and heads to the Big Ten.
