RESULTS | VIDEO: 100 Breaststroke
AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State Cyclones hosted Minnesota on Saturday at Beyer Pool putting up a strong fight but in the end falling 199-100. The Cyclones drop 1-1 in dual meets for the season.
"We are very happy with how the women stood up and raced against Minnesota,” head coach Duane Sorenson said. “We had much faster times than last week and really competed well and fought through and gave it our all in every race."
The Cyclones started off the meet with an exciting first place finish in the 200 medley relay with the team of Sarah Norris, Imelda Wistey, Tiana Wollin and Amanda Paulson touching the wall with a time of 1:48.12.
Iowa State saw success again with a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke with Wistey finishing with a time of 1:04.93. Emily Wiltsie finished in third with a time of 1:07.29.
"I am very pleased with Imelda Wistey and her times," Sorenson said.
The freshman duo of Paulson and Britta Sortland both continued to show promise in the 50 freestyle with Paulson touching first with a time of 24.51 and Sortland coming in second with a time of 24.58.
In the 200 breaststroke Wistey and Wiltsie took second in third with finishing times of 2:23.75 and 2:24.02, respectively.
"In the 200, Wistey had a very good time for this early in the season and she is on track for great finishes," Sorenson stated.
The Cyclones finished the meet with a third place finish in the 400 freestyle relay from the team of Katie Vollhaber, Paulson, Sortland and Sarah Deis touching at 3:39.15.
In the diving well Cyclone senior Sarah Nelson took second in the 1-meter with a final score of 264.30. Nelson also took third in the 3-meter with a score of 271.42.
"Sarah Nelson had a very good day," diving coach Jeff Warrick said. "She really came out and met the challenges of diving with strong competition."
Jessica Nicholson took fifth in both the 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 223.12 and 229.20, respectively.
The Cyclones will be back in action for dual meets against South Dakota and South Dakota State on Friday Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. CDT and Saturday Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. CDT.
