DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. - After two rounds, the Iowa State men's golf team leads the 13-team pack at the Rees Jones Invitational after carding rounds of 298 and 296 (594) this aftternoon. South Carolina is in second at 598 and Wake Forest is in third with a 602.
Cyclone senior Nate McCoy was outstanding today, leading the medalist race after carding rounds of 68 and 70 (138; 6-under). McCoy, who was the only player under par in the first round, has a seven-shot lead going into the final round tomorrow. Lee Bedford of Wake Forest and Dykes Harbin of South Carolina are trailing McCoy in second place at 145.
Freshman Scott Fernandez, who was the tourament medalist in the Cyclones' last meet, is tied for fifth after firing rounds of 74 and 73 (147). Sam Daley is in a four-way tie for 11th, tallying a 149.
The Rees Jones Invitational will conclude tomorrow with 18 holes.
