AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State swimming and diving team will compete in back-to-back meets this weekend, hosting the annual intrasquad meet on Friday at 6 p.m. CDT at Beyer Pool before traveling to face Northern Iowa on Saturday with the meet slated to begin at 10 a.m. CDT.
The Cyclones hosted an exciting meet against the alumni last weekend to start the season. The current Cyclones finished first in all but two events, sweeping all four relay events and sweeping both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards in the diving well.
The team is looking to carry its success against the former Cyclones into this weekend's meets. Friday's intrasquad meet will provide friendly competition between the Gold and Cardinal teams in the first formal meet of the season.
“We want the women to race against each other,” head coach
Duane Sorenson said. “We are looking to see how the women react and work on the little things from last week's meet and for them to improve.”
Saturday's regular-season opener with the Panthers pits Iowa State with a familiar foe that the Cyclones have had great success against. Iowa State is 24-1 all-time against UNI.
“Northern Iowa has very good individuals, but not as much depth as we do,” Sorenson said. “They have a lot of very good racers; we are really looking forward to the meet.”
