Sarah Nelson earned her second career Big 12 Diver of the Week award after her career-best performance against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The senior from Decorah, Iowa, who was previously honored last season, joins Linda Wagner in becoming a two-time diver of the week. Iowa State's all-time leader in Big 12 Diver of the Week awards is Tien Tran with three.
On Friday against in-state rival Iowa, Nelson led the Cyclones, finishing second on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Nelson finished with a final score of 275.32 on the 1-meter springboard and on the 3-meter board, she ended the evening with a score of 290.93, putting her ninth in school history. Both of Nelsons scores for the evening were personal bests, as well as NCAA Zone Diving Championships qualifying scores.
Nelson currently leads the Cyclones in the platform event this season, finishing second at the TYR Northwestern Invitational with a final score of 231.85.
With a tie in voting, Diana Wilcox of Texas also earned the Diver of the Week award. Karlee Bispo of Texas was named Swimmer of the Week.
The Iowa State divers will compete again at the Georgia Diving Invitational January 3-5. The swimmers will go on their winter training trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and be back in action Jan. 27 at Nebraska-Omaha.
