Conference-High 19 Cyclones Earn Academic All-Big 12 Honors

IRVING, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announced the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 swimming and diving team on Wednesday with 19 members of the Iowa State swimming and diving team earning honors. The 19 honorees is the highest among the conference teams.

Fourteen of the 19 honorees collected first-team honors. Seniors Kalyn Amundsen, Justine Anders, Amy Bauer, Abby Christensen and Chelsea Tomek earned recognition for the third time in their careers. Seniors Lindsey Frodyma and Megan Thompson and juniors Mandi Caudle and Sarah Nelson all made their second appearance on the first team. Senior Johanna Wubbena and sophomores Marley Dobyns, Dani Harris, Sarah Norris and Tiana Wollin all made their first appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 squad.

Second-team recipients included senior Jenny Vondenkamp and juniors Jenn Botsch, Meredith Doran, Liz Holman and Lauren Naeve. It marked a second Academic All-Big 12 appearance for Doran, Naeve and Vondenkamp while Botsch and Holman were first-time recipients.

To be eligible for the first team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 GPA cumulative or for the past two semesters. Qualifications for second team honors include a 3.0 GPA either cumulative or for the past two semesters. A student-athlete must also compete in 60 percent of the team's contests to be eligible for either first- or second-team Academic All-Big 12 honors. Freshman and transfer students, however, are not eligible to receive the award in their first year of academics at an institution.
