Cyclones Perform Strongly to Conclude Husker Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Iowa State track and field teams concluded competition at the Husker Invitational Saturday at the Devaney Sports Center. Action for the Cyclones was highlighted on the track by the men's 4x400 relay team took second place with a time of 3:14.42.

The Cyclone team of Ian Warner, Clint Martin, Elphas Sang and Alvin Garnett finished .04 seconds behind Big 12 rival Colorado's first-place finishing relay team.

In addition to the second-place relay finish, Sang earned a second place finish in the men's 1,000-meter run. Sang, who ran 2:28.62, finished closely behind Kansas State's Jack Saschse, the event's first-place finisher. Warner also earned a second-place finish for the Cyclones, running 6.79 in the 60-meter dash finals.

Junior sprinter Kianna Elahi highlighted action on the track for the women's side after recording a second-place finish in the 600-yard run (1:21.39).

Freshman Hannah Willms led the Cyclone jumpers, earning a fourth-place finish in the high jump (5-08.75). Willms' performance this weekend ties her best high jump mark thus far in the 2011 indoor season.

Kersten Thorgaard won her heat of the women's mile run, placing fifth overall in the middle distance race. Her time of 5:08.54 was a new personal best mark by nearly six seconds.

Iowa State track and field returns home to host the ISU Classic at the Lied Recreation Center Feb. 11-13.
