RESULTSAUSTIN, Texas - Three Iowa State divers began their first day of the three-day NCAA Zone “D” Diving Championships this afternoon at the Texas Swimming Center.
Jenn Botsch,
Abby Christensen and
Sarah Nelson competed in the 3-meter in their pursuit to qualify for the NCAA Championships next week.
“For the NCAA Zone meet, and being the first time for Sarah and Jenn, I am very happy with how the competed,” diving coach
Jeff Warrick said. “Everyone was very composed and didn't let the idea of it being a big event get to them.”
Junior Botsch led the Cyclones, finishing her first Zone meet in 28th with 246.65 points.
“Her second dive of the day was just fantastic,” Warrick said. “How she entered the water was fantastic, she sharpened up and made her dives great.”
Following Botsch and placing 30th was Nelson.
“Sarah was kind of up and down today, and it really came down to her entries,” Warrick stated.
Close behind, Christensen finished prelims in 31st.
“I was not ecstatic with the final scores but overall, I felt like they did a great job,” said Warrick. “We need to be at our personal bests at all times to advance to the finals.”
The Cyclones will continue competition tomorrow on the 1-meter board, with the meet scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CST.
