AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State track and field will see a great deal of competition this weekend as four different meets are on the schedule for the Cyclones. A majority of athletes will head to the California to compete in the 53rd Mt. SAC Relays Thursday-Saturday in Walnut, the Brian Clay Invitational Friday in Azusa or the Beach Invitational Saturday in Cerritos. Other Cyclone athletes will have the opportunity to compete closer to home in the Jim Duncan Invitational Friday and Saturday inside Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Entering the weekend, the Cyclones have eight athletes ranked nationally in the top-50 of six events.
The Cyclones will see performances out of Iowa State All-Americans at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Hillary Bor will compete for the first time in the 2011 outdoor season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Thursday at 8:15 p.m. CDT. Bor is ranked third nationally in the event.
Betsy Saina is scheduled to compete in the 5,000-meter run where she is ranked 26th nationally. Saina's section of the 5,000-meter run is scheduled for 11:05 p.m. CDT Friday.
After running a personal-best time in the 400-meter hurdles April 9 at the Sun Angel Classic, junior sprinter
Kianna Elahi holds the sixth-fastest time in the nation in the event and is ranked eighth nationally in the 400-meter hurdles. Elahi will compete Saturday in the Olympic Development section of the 400-meter hurdles.
Cyclone senior
Britta Christofferson is also scheduled to compete in the hammer throw and shot put for the women. Christofferson will compete fresh off of breaking the Iowa State school record in the hammer throw Friday at the Sun Angel Classic. She will compete in the shot put Friday at noon CDT and the hammer throw at 4 p.m. CDT.
Action at the Mt. SAC Relays is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CDT start on Thursday and an 11 a.m. CDT start on Friday and Saturday. Events at the Brian Clay Invitational are slated for an 11 a.m. CDT start on Friday, while the Beach Invitational is scheduled for an 11 a.m. CDT start on Saturday. Events at the Jim Duncan Invitational will begin at 3:30 p.m. CDT and 10 a.m. CDT Saturday.
