COLUMBIA, Mo. - The 15th-ranked Iowa State women's golf team finished fourth at the Big 12 Championships after carding a final-round 297 at The Club at Old Hawthorne this afternoon. The Cyclones finished the tournament with a 54-hole total of 882, 10 shots behind champion Texas at 872.
Iowa State's fourth-place finish equals the best showing ever by a Cyclone team at the Big 12 Championships. Iowa State also placed fourth a year ago.
Senior Victoria Stefansen led the Cyclones by tying for fourth en route to earning Big 12 All-Tournament team honors. Stefansen carded a 3-under par 69 this afternoon to give her a 54-hole 216 tally. She is just the fourth player in school history to earn all-tournament honors at the Big 12 Championships. It was also Stefansen's 13th top-10 finish of her career.
True freshman Prima Thammaraks tied for 12th in her first Big 12 Championships, carding rounds of 74-69-78 for a 221 total. Sophomore Punpaka Phuntumabamrung tied for 18th at 223.
Texas' Madison Pressel won the medalist race with an 8-under par 208.
Iowa State is a lock to earn its second consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. The Cyclones will find out which regional they will compete at via a NCAA conference call tomorrow afternoon.
