DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa State's women's distance medley relay team of Dani Stack, Kianna Elahi, Semehar Tesfaye and Lucy Kennedy ran to a runner-up finish Friday at the Drake Relays inside Drake Stadium.

"Kianna really flew through her (400 meter) leg," Stack said. "She went after it and I know coach told us to get in good position so Kianna could do what she does best. I tried to get in good position and I think it helped to have her catch someone. She ran phenomenally."

The Iowa State quartet posted a time of 11:24.22, just behind Utah who took the women's distance medley title in 11:17.09. Iowa State's time is second on the Iowa State outdoor track and field all-time performance list behind the 2010 Drake Relays DMR champion team of Tesfaye, Elahi, Erin Penticoff and Lisa Koll (11:08.64).

"We had some good things happen today," Iowa State head coach Corey Ihmels said. "The DMR was solid. The highlight of today was Kianna's 400-meter leg. She continues to impress us."

Action for the Cyclone men was highlighted by a fourth-place finish by the men's 4x1600-meter relay. The quartet of Alex Dillenbeck, Edward Kemboi, Nick Schulze and Hillary Bor finished in 16:54.74. Bor ran a strong anchor leg for the Cyclones' relay team moving them into the fourth-place position by the end of the race.

"The 4 x 1600 relay did a nice job," Ihmels said. "The men's 4 x 100 and Ian Warner in the 100 meters ran well today even though they did not make the final."

Select Cyclones also competed at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa. Freshman Isaac Chelimo won the men's steeplechase in a personal-best time, 9:20.50. Competing unattached, freshman Morgan Casey set a new meet record in the 1,500-meter run, winning the event in 4:32.96.

"The Simpson meet has been a excellent developmental opportunity for us," Ihmels said. "Morgan and Maggie Gannon, who got second in that race, are both runners who will help us in the future."

The final day of the Drake Relays begins for the Cyclones Saturday at 9 a.m. CDT with the women's hammer throw.
