NGCA Names Martens Central Region Coach of the Year

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Iowa State women's golf coach Christie Martens was honored today by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), earning Division I SkyCaddie Central Region Coach of the Year honors.
Martens just finished her seventh year as the leader of the Cyclone women's golf program, recording one of the best seasons in school history. The Cyclones achieved their highest ranking in the history of the program (No. 15), won three tournament titles and tallied 11 of the top-12 18-hole scores in the Iowa State record book.
Iowa State advanced to its second consecutive NCAA Regional in 2011, placing 10th in the NCAA West Region. Three Cyclones were named All-Big 12 (Laurence Herman, Prima Thammaraks, Sasikarn On-iam) and Victoria Stefansen earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors.
Martens was also named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
