Bor, Kemboi, Elahi Advance to NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Three Iowa State competitors qualified for the NCAA Championships Friday at the NCAA West Regional at Hayward Field. Edward Kemboi, Kianna Elahi and Hillary Bor joined Dani Stack and Betsy Saina, who qualified in the 10,000-meters Thursday night, in the group of Cyclones headed to the NCAA Championships at Drake Stadium.
Freshman Edward Kemboi posted a personal best time 1:47.25 in the quarterfinals of the 800-meter run en route to finishing third in his heat. By finishing third in his heat, Kemboi automatically qualified for the semifinals at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines. Kemboi's time of 1:47.25 currently ranks third on the Iowa State all-time outdoor track and field performer list.
Three-time All-American Hillary Bor posted a second-place finish in the first 3,000-meter steeplechase quarterfinal in 8:45.12, automatically qualifying him for the semifinal in Des Moines.Â
Junior Kianna Elahi finished second in her heat of the 400-meter hurdles quarters, securing a spot in the semifinal field in Des Moines. Elahi finished second in her heat, clocking a 57.92 behind Kansas State's Ryann Krais.
The NCAA West Regional Championships continues Saturday at noon CDT with the first round of the women's discus.
