Stack Earns All-America Honors In 10K At NCAA Track

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field team concluded the first day of competition at the NCAA Championships inside Drake Stadium with sophomore Dani Stack running to All-America honors in the 10,000-meter run, Edward Kemboi setting a school record in the 800-meter run and having two qualifiers for final races on Friday.
Topping off a breakout season, Dani Stack took turns leading the 10,000-meter field with teammate Betsy Saina. Stack ran to a fourth-place finish in 34:32.28, earning All-America honors for the first time, while Saina did not finish the race due to medical reasons.
"There were great girls in that race today," Stack said. "I'm so happy with fourth. It's been my goal all season to finish in the top-five at NCAAs and I accomplished that tonight and it makes me want to go out and see what more I can achieve."
Freshman Edward Kemboi continued to add to his impressive list of accomplishments since arriving at Iowa State in January. Kemboi, a 17-year-old Kenya native, posted the third-fastest qualifying time in Wednesday's 800-meter run semifinals. Running to a personal best time, 1:46.06, Kemboi also broke the Iowa State school record in the event.
"After that race today, I feel ready for the finals," Kemboi said. "That was the fastest I have ever run an 800-meter race, and I didn't believe it when I saw my time get posted on the board."
Kemboi broke the a 30-year-old Iowa State outdoor school record, set in 1980 by David Korir in 1:46.3.
Kemboi will compete in the 800-meter final on Friday at 7:20 p.m. CDT.
Three-time All-American Hillary Bor finished sixth in heat one of the semifinals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, automatically advancing to Friday's final race.
"Today's race didn't feel too great," Bor said. "But I am going to make the most of the 48 hours I have before the final and come back out on Friday ready to race well."
Bor will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final on Friday at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
