AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State swimming and diving team will kick off their 2011-12 season Friday evening with an Alumni Meet. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. CDT at Beyer Pool and admission is free.
The meet is a chance for current Cyclones to welcome former Cyclones back to Ames and get a chance to race against team members of the past. For the alumni, it's an opportunity to return to their old pool and see changes in the current program.
"It's a great opportunity for our women to stand up and race in a meet setting," head coach Duane Sorenson said. "It's a chance to see where we are at in our training and see what we need to work on."
Though the meet will not showcase the competition or times that will be seen throughout the 2011-12 season, it is a great chance for the team to get a meet in as well as have fun with the current team and alumni.
"It's kind of an interesting meet,” Sorenson said. "The alumni have the choice of swimming 100s against our women, or they can swim 2x50 or 2x25, while our women will swim a full 100. It will be a fun event."
