AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State swimming and diving team hosted Cyclones of the past at the Alumni Meet Friday night at Beyer Pool. The meet consisted of eight swimming events along with 1-meter and 3-meter diving prior to a post-meet social for the current athletes and alumni.
"I was real pleased with their effort tonight," head coach
Duane Sorenson said. "We had practice this morning then we lifted weights and then we did a little work out then stood up and raced. They really gave a nice effort and everyone competed.”
The current Cyclones put up strong races throughout the entire meet, finishing first in eight of the ten events and swept all four relays with the team of
Sarah Norris,
Imelda Wistey,
Tiana Wollin and
Amanda Paulson starting off the meet with times of 50.52 and 1:49.80 in the 100 and 200 medley relay, respectively.
"
Tiana Wollin did a really nice job in the 100 fly," Sorenson noted. "She is way ahead of where she was last year."
Wollin went 58.92 in the 100 fly with freshman
Elizabeth Kleiner and senior
Meredith Doran coming in second and third at 1:00.57 and 1:00.76, respectively.
The Alumni team swept the 100 backstroke with top three finishes. The team of
Amy Bauer and
Chelsea Tomek touched first at 1:00.35, followed closely by Kim Schmuggee and Britta Hayes at 1:00.45.
Lindsey Frodyma and
Jenny Vondenkamp touched third with a time of 1:01.11.
The 2011-12 Cyclones found success again in the diving well, finishing first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter. Jessica Nicholson finished first with a score of 89.60 in the 1-meter and
Sarah Nelson took first in the 3-meter with 89.40 points.
The Cyclones will return to the pool next Friday, Oct. 7, when they host their annual intersquad meet. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. CDT at Beyer Pool and admission is free.
